Transport and Logistics

Both its position as the world’s number 1 exporter and number 2 importer, and development of its domestic market, have supported emergence of the transport sector in China. Shipping is extremely concentrated, with China COSCO Shipping Corp. dominating all sectors from bulk to containers, and all segments from deep sea to coastal and inland. Conversely, air transport is extremely fragmented, resulting in over 50 airlines operating in China. The cargo segment has seen recent growth that appears due to go on. As for logistics operators, SOEs (State-Owned Enterprises) that had evolved from traditional freight forwarders have been overtaken recently by the subsidiaries of private giants specializing in express courrier or e-commerce. Nevertheless, the Central SASAC has established a new national group end of 2021 to ensure control of supply chains.
